Benefits of Restylane in Chicago Over Cosmetic Surgery

by | May 4, 2016 | Health

Restylane is a relatively new procedure, one that can help firm skin, reduce wrinkles, and take years off your face. Before the rise of facial fillers, like Restylane, the only option to help improve the look of your face and to reduce the impact of aging was to opt for cosmetic surgery. While this is still a viable option for many, and in some cases the only way to achieve the desired results, facial fillers are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative. Here are just a few benefits of Restylane in Chicago over cosmetic surgery.

Intended Purpose

Both cosmetic surgery and Restylane can correct what is commonly referred to as surface depression, deep wrinkles and lines in the face, which include laugh lines and other similar imperfections. Face lifts help correct those imperfections by having a surgeon remove excess skin, and pull the remaining skin tightly over the face. Fillers are able to do this by through a small injection made into the skin, which firms up the face, giving a similar effect without the invasive treatment.

Length of Procedure

A facelift will take as long as it needs to remove the excess skin, and to ensure the remaining skin is tightly pulled over the face. Recovery time can take weeks, sometimes months, and there are sever restrictions on the types of activities that can be undertaken during this time. Restylane is a relatively short procedure, often completed in less than twenty minutes, and with very minimal recovery time. In fact, some patients are able to have the procedure done before work or on their lunch break, and able to return and finish the work day.

Side Effects and Complications

In healthy patients, for whom Restylane is recommended, there are virtually no side effects. Some redness in the face may occur, and in rare cases bruising has been reported. These side effects tend to clear up within days of the procedure, and most patients find them not bothersome enough to prevent future treatment. Cosmetic surgery is an invasive surgical procedure, and with that comes the risk of infection, pain, redness, and a lengthy recovery time. There are steps that can be taken to mitigate these risks and side effects, but there is no denying that cosmetic surgery requires a lot more downtime than Restylane.

Ideal Candidates

Most clinics will say that their ideal Restylane patient is younger than fifty or sixty, and doesnt have the excess skin required to make a face lift surgery effective. They are healthy individuals, who will care for their skin following the procedure. This includes using facial creams, and always wearing sunscreen. Ideal candidates for facial surgery will also be in good health, but who are willing to avoid smoking and drinking leading up to the surgery, have the excess skin required, and who have the ability to take the time off work in order to safely recover.
